Miquell finds envelope with a lot of money

Miquell Bakker (30) found an envelope at Utrecht Central Station in the summer of 2019, containing a sweet emotional letter and a large amount of money. For days he has been trying to track down the rightful owner. That's not easy, despite the fact that his search message on Facebook has already been shared over 2600 times. The result so far: 400 messages in his inbox, 0 rightful owners.

"But I have also come to love you and be grateful that you accept me so. Enjoy yourselves together. Greetings, Jan," reads the concluding part of the note that was in the envelope. At first Miquell didn't want to share the sentences on the internet, but because the owner still hasn't reported in two days after the find, he shared the emotional last sentence anyway. "Surely someone must recognize this?"

He is keeping the amount of money a secret; when the sender reports, he will be able to identify him. Miquell only let go that it was not a few hundred euro: "It is really a lot of money. A lot."

'Only open it on the way'

Last Sunday, Miquell saw the envelope with the text "Open it on the way!" lying in front of the Hema at Utrecht Central Station. Right in the middle of the footpath. Miquell was on his way to a festival and did some shopping there. When he came out again, it was still there. "I thought it might be a joke or a publicity stunt", says Miquel. Still, he picked up the envelope, caught his train, and then opened it.

"I was shocked, because there was a lot of money in it. At first I was happy, because it was convenient for the festival. But when I read the note next to it, I couldn't bring myself to keep it."

Flooding inbox

"The content of the letter is so sweet. I would find it very unpleasant if I would lose that note and also this amount of money. It's a bit silly to lose this." Miquell posted the front of the envelope and a piece of the text on Facebook.

The message received hundreds of reactions and was shared 2600 times. Miquell's inbox is flooding: "I have over 400 messages now. Many are nice, people think it is sweet and good that I did not keep the money myself. Other messages say that I should have kept it. Nonsense of course. And enough people pretend to be the owner, but they are not. It's easy to see through it.

The right person still hasn't shown up. Miquell hopes that this will happen soon. "If only because then I would be rid of all those messages."
